The stars of
Carol Cresswell's remarkable and detailed wildlife paintings are usually large predators, and more often than not,
the big cats. Working in a variety of mediums, (her favourites are acrylics and pastel), she achieves a wonderful
combination of lifelike realism and artistic interpretation.
One of Carol's major achievements was a portrait of a different kind of star. In 1972 she was commissioned to paint
the pianist Liberace. The portrait hung in the entertainer's home until his death in 1987 and is now on permanent
display in the Liberace Museum in Las Vegas.
More recently her animal work has predominated and she has exhibited at The Wildlife art Society's annual exhibitions at the Westminster Gallery in London, at the Wildscreen Festival in Bristol, and regularly at exhibitions throughout East Anglia.
For several years she has been selected as a finalist in the well-known international
PAWS (Paint A Wildlife Subject) competition and her winning work, selected from some 1300 entries, has been exhibited at major exhibitions in the Home Counties.
Her love of wildlife extends beyond her painting and Carol supports a number of animal charities, taking a keen and informed interest in their conservation work. In 2009 an approach from the Suffolk Punch Trust enabled Carol to further pursue another of her favourite subjects, painting heavy horses, specifically the Suffolk Punch horses. Carol is looking forward to being able to support the work of the Trust in preserving these extremely rare and beautiful animals.
With plenty of ideas of her own for future subjects, Carol is nevertheless always interested in considering commissions,
and will bring to them her distinctive style and unquestioned talent.
